Nurses are amazing (and I not just saying that because I related to one). No matter how achy their feet or full their bladders, they take care of their patients something fierce. "Nurses are educated to prioritize care based on the patient condition, scheduled procedures, or treatments," says Sarah Gilbert, PhD, an assistant professor at Radford University School of Nursing in Virginia. "We want patients to talk to us about questions they may have for their doctors," says Patricia M. Burke, PhD, an associate professor of nursing at Touro College School of Health Sciences in New York. "As the nurse, we can act as of medical jargon to make sure they understand what going on." Today, most hospital systems have a coded number that given to family members so they can receive updates on a loved one. "Often, these omissions aren intentional patient just doesn consider certain details to be important."
